This seems too good to be true. It would be great if it is PD, but I've gotta question this:

Like I said, seems too good to be true. Hope it ain't.

And while we're at it, how about this one?

The reason I'm questioning this one is because I recently had to remove the German remake "Dead Eyes of London". I'd hate see either one go, but right is right.

And another one:

And yet another one. Even though it has commercials added I don't think the feature part is ok to stay:

Copyright circus aside, I like what was done with 2,000 Maniacs, vintage commercials, short, etc...

Neat idea.

Well, maybe if the commercials and the short are pd, they could be separated and uploaded individually. I think the uploader did neat work, if whoever it was did the editing. Maybe the uploader could work with some of the material that's already here and do something similar with that. I'd encourage that.

OK, I had a little time on my hands and checked USCO and, with the exception of "The Thing From The Other World", and I found registration numbers for all the above;
THEM
RE0000131473 / 1982-12-07
renewal for: LP0000004918 / 1955-06-27

2000 MANIACS
RE0000609112 / 1992-12-23
renewal for: PA0000230636 / 1965-10-15 (in notice 1964)

DARK EYES OF LONDON
PA0000859588 / 1997-04-30
registered under GATT/URAA

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL
RE0000033722 / 1979-09-10
renewal for: LP0000001263 / 1951-09-18
(further renewal status unknown-possible)

I still tend to believe that THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD is copyright even if no information was available at USCO, and even though the renewal registration shown for THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL is almost 30 years old, I'm pretty sure Fox renewed it again. Video cellar, do you think you could shed more light on this?

I checked and found all of these films gone except for "Dark Eyes of London". I guess that means it's PD which suits me just fine.

The Dark Eyes Of London/The Human Monster w/Bela Lugosi got taken down. Is it still undercopyright? I know Alpha Video,St. Clair Vision, & Diamond Entertainment as well as the AMC Monsterfest DVD of The Bela Lugosi Classics sells it as The Human Monster. I believe Sinister Cinema and Image Entertainment/The Roan Group have sold it under the British release title: The Dark Eyes Of London.

These are classics, major classics mostly. As much as it would be cool to be able to share flicks like these here, the fact is copyright laws exist for a reason. Now I don't know for sure that any of the above films are PD, but I seriously doubt that they are. I've noticed that quite a bit of copyright material has shown up here, but thanks to the sharp eye of Video Cellar, a lot has been taken down quickly. I recently had to take down some of my uploads, so I've made mistakes too. You have to be careful, or this site could get shut down. I remember another site, Stage6, that had to shut down, and there was a lot of copyright material there, such as tv shows like "Doctor Who" and "Space: 1999". I would hate for the same thing to happen here. I would hate to lose IA. So if you have something you want to put up, check here first and ask if it's copyright, then wait for a response from somebody like Video Cellar before you put it up. If it's copyright, you can't upload it here.
